BEYOND THE ILLUSION OF PERFECTION

The mirror's shattered pieces tell a tale of self-hate,

Her refusal to pick up the pieces shows just how much she hates her own face.

He stares in disdain and wonders, "Why was I given this frame?"

"Am I yet to mature or could this be my final stature?"

Sighs and screams echo down the hall as she tries to fit in a dress that's obviously two sizes too small.

The muffled screams turn into silent tears, and she wonders, "What wouldn't I give to look like someone else?"

Haunted by the stories hidden in her scars, she wonders, "Why can't my body look like hers?"

Clear and without blemish, as radiant as the sun.

Oh, how many "hers" had she compared herself with?

The "her" that lives down the street or the "her" sitting across in class? The "her" she stalks on IG or perhaps the "her" only her mind's eye can see?

When will she see beyond her mind's lies?

And when will she not let self-doubt arise?

When will she learn that flawlessness is but a myth?

Finally, he sees beyond the mirror's lies and deceit,

Discovering self-worth, a journey oh so sweet.

At last, she has learned that beauty is internal, a radiant light within.

So embrace your "flaws" and let self-love begin.
