Opay Digital Services Limited, commonly known as Opay, is a financial technology company with a mission to make financial services more inclusive and accessible through innovative technology.

Opay was founded in September 2018 by the Norwegian company Opera Software, under the visionary leadership of Yahui Zhou, a Chinese billionaire. Although Opay was founded by a Norwegian company, it is often regarded as a Chinese entity due to the significant backing from Chinese investors. Opay was established with the clear mission to make financial services more inclusive using cutting-edge technology.

As part of its strategy to aggressively enter the African fintech market, Opera Software acquired and rebranded Paycom Nigeria Limited, transforming it into what we now recognize as Opay—a strategy that has proven to be highly successful.
Opay is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and user deposits (up to N5,000,000) are insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), just like traditional banks.
The company has an ambitious vision: to become the most respected and popular financial technology company, actively creating social value. Their goal is to serve 1 billion users, support 10 million merchants, and create 1 million jobs by 2031.

Opay offers two apps: Opay for personal accounts and Opay Business for business/merchant accounts. Both apps are available on the Google Play Store and the App Store for Android and iPhone users, respectively. Opay provides a variety of services and benefits, including:
- Easy Account Opening: Opening an Opay account is as simple as ABC. All you need to do is download the app, provide your details, and you're good to go—unlike the traditional process of visiting the bank, submitting two passport photos, filling out forms, etc.
- Instant Transfers: Enjoy fast, seamless transfers with a high success rate.
- Airtime/Data Top-Up: Easily recharge your airtime and data from the app or by dialing *995#.
- Instant and Free Debit Card: In May 2022, Opay began issuing debit cards to provide convenience to its users.
- Quick Customer Service: Expect prompt responses from Opay’s 24/7 customer service team.
- Owealth: Earn daily interest on your funds while maintaining full access and control of your money. Owealth is powered by BlueRidge Microfinance Bank.

In terms of security, Opay is among the best in Nigeria's banking industry. Beyond being licensed and insured, the company prioritizes user security in various ways. For example, if your phone is stolen or misplaced, you can quickly dial *955*131# from any mobile number to freeze all debit transactions. Similarly, if your debit card is lost or stolen, you can dial *955*132# to block it immediately.
Opay has also introduced the innovative Night Guard feature, which allows users to set a timeframe (between 11 pm and 7 am) during which transfers will require enhanced identity verification. Transactions made during this period must pass facial recognition. This proactive feature was introduced in response to a noticeable increase in fraud and illicit financial activities, demonstrating Opay's commitment to protecting its users.
Furthermore, Opay has always safeguarded users from making erroneous transfers. For instance, when transferring funds to a new account, users receive a prompt to double-check the recipient’s details. This simple precaution helps users be more cautious during transactions.
Initially, some users perceived Opay as suitable only for small transactions, but that’s far from the truth. Opay offers different verification tiers, each with distinct transaction limits:
- Tier 1
- Daily transaction limit: N50,000
- Maximum account balance: N300,000
- Tier 2
- Daily transaction limit: N200,000
- Maximum account balance: N500,000
- Tier 3
- Daily transaction limit: N5,000,000
- Maximum account balance: Unlimited
- Merchant Account
- Daily transaction limit: N5,000,000
- Maximum account balance: Unlimited
When it comes to savings, Opay encourages users to cultivate saving habits through various channels, each with its own interest rates, withdrawal conditions, and durations:
- Owealth
- Targets
- SafeBox
- Fixed
- Spend & Save
Additionally, users can access loans directly from the Opay app via EaseMoni, allowing them to borrow up to N1,000,000 without collateral, with an interest rate as low as 0.1% per month.
Opay can be easily contacted for support via email at customerservice@opay-inc.com, WhatsApp (+234 916 599 8936), Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or via their mobile app.
With its innovative solutions, Opay is undeniably a game changer in Nigeria’s banking industry.
